fesmedia Africa is the media project of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in Africa. It is working towards a political, legal and regulatory framework for the media which follows international human rights law, the relevant protocols of the African Union (AU) and declarations of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) or other regional standards in Africa. fesmedia promotes media freedom, access to information and the diversity of an independent media in Africa, supports the creation of media councils and self-regulatory bodies as a precondition for a responsible and independent media sector, lobbies for the transformation of national broadcasters into truly public broadcasters as platforms for democratic dialogue, cultural exchange and nation building and strengthens the awareness of parliaments for the necessity of adequate media legislation for a democratic control of governments and state institutions. ...
