The Cinémathèque Afrique is run by the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It provides more than 500 African movie, animated movies, documentaries etc. as from the 1960s onwards to social, cultural or educational organisations. There are 700 archived films more which are subject to special conditions for lending. You have access to the data base where you can search for titles, film makers, country, language, year or genre. The AMP began in 1978 with four years of work to develop a print compendium, Africa on Film and Videotape, 1982. The compendium lists several thousand productions and provides reviews of more than 700 films and videos, reviewed systematically by African graduate students and American specialists on each country.
In 2002 the African Media Program offers an on-line comprehensive reference guide to approximately 10,000 films, videos, and other audiovisual materials concerning Africa (both Sub-Saharan and North Africa). It includes film and video productions made in Africa and around the world.

The Africa Alive Festival has its main focus on African movies, but also shows other aspects of African culture (literature, art, music). In 1996, the festival was declared a project of the world decade for cultural development by the Unesco.
