The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) was founded in 1984 as the Catholic Higher Institute of Eastern Africa. It was granted University status in 1992. The faculty of Theology is directly under the control of the Congregation for Catholic Education to award canonical or ecclesistical degrees in eight areas of specialisation, and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is directly under the supervision of the Commissioner for Higher Education of the Republic of Kenya, on behalf of other countries of AMECEA (Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa), to award civil degrees in sixteen areas of specialisation. ...
